SEO ROI Calculator

SEO ROI Calculator

Forecast organic traffic, leads, revenue and payback from an SEO investment — with two things almost no other calculator models honestly: AI Overview click loss and a realistic ramp-up curve. Every benchmark is sourced and labelled by how much you should trust it. Works in INR or USD.

Read this before you trust any SEO ROI number, including this one There is no independent, peer-reviewed dataset for SEO ROI, SEO close rates, or the month-by-month SEO ramp curve. The figures circulating online come almost entirely from SEO agencies publishing the results of their own campaigns, with no sample sizes and no failed campaigns included. This tool computes ROI from your inputs rather than asserting a benchmark multiple, labels every default by source quality, and tells you where the evidence runs out. Treat the output as a structured hypothesis, not a forecast.
Currency

1 · Search opportunity

Sum the monthly search volume of every keyword you realistically intend to rank for.

Positions 1–2 measured (GrowthSRC 2025). Positions 3–10 interpolated from the Backlinko 2019 shape — no source publishes a full current table.

Sets the AI Overview haircut below. 99.2% of AI-Overview-triggering keywords are informational.

Pew Research found clicks fell from 15% to 8% of visits when an AI summary appeared (−47%). Ahrefs measured position-1 CTR down 58% on AI-Overview keywords. Amsive found branded queries actually gained 18.7%. Adjust to your keyword mix.

2 · Conversion economics

Reference: Ruler Analytics measured 4.9% for organic search across 110M sessions; First Page Sage reports 2.6% B2B. Use your own analytics if you have it.

No credible study isolates SEO close rate — see the note below the results.

Use lifetime value if you have repeat purchase data; first-order value if not.

Set to 100 to model on revenue. Set to your real margin to model on gross profit — the more honest basis for ROI.

3 · Investment and timing

Retainer, salary, content and tools combined.

Audit, migration, site build. Leave at 0 if none.

No published study establishes a ramp curve. Ahrefs measured that only 1.74% of new pages reach the top 10 within a year, and the average #1 page is 5 years old — so 12 months is the optimistic case, not the cautious one.

4 · Paid comparison (optional)

WordStream 2026, 13,474 US search campaigns, medians.

Auto-filled from the industry benchmark. Indian CPCs run materially below US medians — edit this to your own Google Ads data.

What the same traffic would cost in Google Ads Buying 1,080 clicks a month at ₹517 per click would cost ₹5.58 L a month, or ₹67.00 L a year — versus ₹4.80 L a year in SEO investment. Note this compares gross traffic cost only: paid traffic arrives immediately and stops the day you stop paying, while organic ramps slowly and persists. Neither is strictly better.

Month-by-month projection

The ramp uses a smooth S-curve reaching full effect in the month you set. The break-even row is highlighted.

The close-rate statistic you will see everywhere is fake "SEO leads close at 14.6% versus 1.7% for outbound" appears in thousands of agency decks and is routinely attributed to HubSpot. It traces to a 2012 blog post that cites no source at all, and the attribution is wrong. It is fourteen years old and unsourced. This calculator makes close rate a required input for exactly that reason. If a proposal quotes you 14.6%, ask where it came from.
Where the evidence genuinely runs out Three inputs here have no independent research behind them: the month-by-month ramp curve, the SEO ROI multiple, and the SEO-specific close rate. Every published version of all three comes from SEO agencies reporting on their own work without sample sizes or control groups. That is why this tool asks you for them rather than filling them in. A forecast built on your own historical data beats a benchmark from someone selling SEO.

What this tool cannot do. It cannot tell you whether you will actually reach your target position, which is the single biggest variable in the whole model. It assumes your conversion rate holds as traffic scales, which it usually does not. And it models one keyword set at one average position, when real organic performance is a long-tail distribution. Use it to structure an argument and test assumptions, not to promise a number to a client or a board.
